As you all know we are fans of water and all the sports you can practice on it. We are also supporters of nature and the respectful relationship between humanity and sea.

One of the sports that better describe this philosophy is sailing. We enjoy exploring new places, new weaves, new experiences on the water.

We all know that we need to be cautious before heading out to the sea: sun cream, suitable clothing and a good pair of sailing sunglasses are the basic kit to go sailing.

The experts of Ocean Sunglasses know the importance of these productos for the health of those who can not separate from water.

Here we have some of the characteristics that should lead incorporated the perfect sailing sunglasses:

- Anti-reflecting lens with a filter that absorbs 100% UV rays block the reflected light and allow a vision without reflections so that you can sail without problems.

- Your sailing sunglasses must be polarized to reduce the sun reflection on the water surface helping your eyes see clearly. Some models like Venezia or Aruba are the perfect sailing sunglasses for your moments on the water.

"Something inside me pushed me to always get back on my board..." - Paula Novotná

- What Kitesurfing means to you?

Kitesurfing is basically all my life. It’s my passion, it’s my favorite hobby, it’s my work, it’s just the best sport in the world. Kiteboarding takes me to places I would never think I would visit. I meet people from all around the world. It is my dream that came true and i am living my life at the moment. I am thankful to my parents that they had taught me this amazing sport, I really don’t know where I would be without them.

- Where are you currently based?

I live in the Czech Republic, but I can not kite there so often, so I travel around the world kitesurfing on all kind of spots. Either if it’s a competition, training photoshoots, I enjoy all. I also study online business management in Prague. My holiday is when I can spend some time home with my family, and recharges the batteries. That’s the best recovery. Sometimes is good to take a break. :)

- What does it feel like to travel all over the world doing what you love?

I love it, doing what I like to do the most is just awesome. I think is what life is about, just work hard to achieve your dream and enjoy it as much as you can. The most important thing in life is to be happy, that’s all what matters.

- Who was your inspiration when you started Kitesurfing?

When I started kitesurfing 8 years ago there were few girls and guys that were inspiring me to train hard and go for my goals. When I started kitesurfing Karolina, Bruna and Gisela were already competing, as well Aaron was one of the guys I was admiring. My dream was to be able to travel as they did and just kite every day. It took me few years but at the moment I am really happy. I am there where I wanted to be, I became a professional kitesurfer and I am doing what I love the most.

- What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?

I quess all of us have this. Sometimes when I am not in the right mindset I can get easily disfocused and nervous. At the moment my training consist of mental training as well so hopefully it is only gonna get better.

I quess my weakness were my injuries. I had two mayor injuries on both knees. But I was strong, motivated and driven to get back. Something inside me pushed me to always get back on my board, because I just love kiteboarding! And here I am back, pushing the female freestyle kiteboarding to the next level.

- Which equipment do you mainly use during your training or competitions?

I am very happy to be using Ocean sunglasses to protect my eyes on the beach and wherever I go. My favorite is BARI and JAPAN. I am very honored to be sponsored by them.

My main sponsor is North kiteboarding. They were supporting me since the beginning and i am very thankful for everything they have helped me with.

I use North Vegas, it’s a C-kite made for freestyle/wakestyle. It’s the most sold C-kite on the market and I just love it. I feel like the kite listens to me, i get the slack what i want, it’s stable in the air and it’s just perfect kite for my style of riding. For board I mainly use Team Series, size 135.

I am dressed in ION clothes and wetsuits. In winter they keep me warm and summer super fresh. The wetsuits are very high quality and super flexible, just perfect clothing for my kind of sport.

As a kite girl I need to have a bikini sponsor. I am super happy I have 69slam bikini as a sponsor and they provide me with the most amazing bikinis I could think of.

My other sponsor is LifeFood. It’s a raw food company based in Czech Republic and it fits with my healthy lifestyle what every athlete should have. I am very honored to be sponsored by them.

- What kind of training do you do, be it physical or mental, to keep you in shape for Kitesurfing?

As a proffesional kiteboarder it’s very important to keep your body in good shape in order to not get injured and to be able to perform well on the water. My training consists of strength training and endurance. I do interval trainings wherever I am. I don't need a gym. Just a mat, TRX, jumping rope and my body. I also love to run to clear my mind, discover new places. I swim when I feel i need to relax my muscles and every evening after training I stretch to feel better the next day.

- Where is your favorite Kitesurfing spot and why?

My favorite Kitesurfing spot is Greece, for many reasons: It is where I started to kite. We spend every summer there with my parents, so it’s like a second home for me, with perfect conditions for training.

- What keeps you occupied when the wind does not blow?

Uff, I am always busy. I mean my life seems like a fairy tale when you look at my photos and videos. It is a dream life, yes. But in order to get this life, you need to train a lot, work a lot with your sponsors and get a good image as an athlete. All this takes a lot of effort and energy. As well I try to study so when there is just little time free I always have something to do. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I am a person that can’t be alone, so I make sure I am always surrounded by people and good vibe.

- If you weren’t a Kitesurfer, what would you be doing?

That’s a difficult question, how can I know? But i am more than sure I would be successful in different sport if it wouldn’t be kiteboarding. I just love to do sports, my parents were my inspiration before and since I was a little child we did almost every sport you could think of. So maybe that’s why I think I just couldn’t live without it. I am extremely happy to be a professional athlete.

- What are you next goals as a professional Kitesurfer?

The most important thing is to stay healthy, improve my level and visit more amazing places. I want to win the world tour one day, that’s a dream that most of us have, but it’s very difficult to achieve. There are more goals, dreams and plans for the future I have on my mind, let’s see. :)

- What do you see yourself doing in 10 years from now?

I hope I will be still be kitesurfing, maybe I will start with my bussiness somewhere or I will just find the best place to set my life. It’s too long ahead right now.

Thanks for the interview Paula! It´s been a pleasure. Have a nice day and always be happy!

Update July // “The busiest month of my life.” – kitesurfing story by Noè Font.

The professional kiteboarder from Spain, Noè Font, tells us how spent his last month.

“After two weeks of "holidays" at home relaxing I'm going think back and write down some of the stories that were part of the busiest month of my life, starting in Greece July 1st.

After winning the Spanish Nationals once again and shooting the Junior VKWC as a photographer I flew west to the island of Rhodes (Greece), where I was supposed to meet up with the Polish gang, for a week of training before the VKWC Tarifa which was right after that. Greece was great, with the economical crisis it was super cheep, windy everyday and sunny. The spot there was in the most southern tip of the island, a town called Prasonisi which is based on a stripe of sand with waves in one side and flat water in the other one.

I flew to Tarifa with Paula Novotná and Hela two other riders from the tour who were also in Greece training, we got there and the event started in "Los Lances" beach we had light "poniente" winds for the first couple of days. On the third day the wind changed to a different direction and it was windy everywhere but at the competition area, after discussing it a lot the organization decided to move the event to Balneario, which is the beach right in the village of Tarifa, one of the most unique places to kite. We went from choppy 13m weather to perfect flat water and 7m weather.

Somehow I managed to win my heat in the second round against my good friend David Tonijuan and right after that I also took the win over Robinson Hilario from the DR. This put me straight into a 5th place position in an event/conditions I would have never expected to be good at. My training in Greece paid of in the event in Tarifa and got me my best result so far on the world tour.

Straight after the VKWC in Tarifa, my friend Jerome Cloetens and I flew down to the island of Lanzarote for ten days to shoot a new movie we are working on with Sam van Olmen and take some photos with Reinout Smit as well. Overall we had some good winds and shot a lot, so look forward to articles, photos and the final movie coming soon!

Here it is to another awesome adventure! Cheers to everyone who helped me along in the past month!”

It´s been a busy and tough month of traveling and training sessions. We hope that there have been enough time for some free sessions, friends and of course lot of fun!

“Widsurfing means so much to me. It´s my way of expression”. - Fanny Baumann. A Tireless fighter.

Fanny Baumann has been passionate about the ocean since a very young age. Never give up and never stop working are her keys to success. Her dedication and passion to the sport is more than evident…

- What windsurfing means to you?

Windsurfing means so much to me. It's my way of expression, my lifestyle and what I strive to become. I believe it to be the perfect sport and on my quest to the Olympic dream I also see it as a job that needs much attention.

- Where are you currently based?

I am currently based in Cadiz, Spain for the winters. In the summers I like to come back to Sweden and in the competitions we have to find a tiny home in each place.

- What does it feel like to travel all over the world doing what you love?

Most of the time I really love it. Competing in windsurfing is the absolutely best way I've tried to travel the world. You see very much of the nature in the places you visit at the same time as you come to feel like a local. Of course I miss home sometimes but as soon as I am home for a longer period I feel the urge to get out there in the world again.

- Who was your inspiration when you started windsurfing?

When I started windsurfing there were no current big windsurfing girls from Sweden. I took most of my inspiration from my friends around me and from nature. I really enjoyed the sport and what it gave me so that was my main inspiration. After a while my dreams became the inspiration and also seeing others getting to know the sport because of you is very inspiring. Everything I learn inspires me to learn more.

- What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?

I am very strong because I am very stubborn. I never give up and never stop working until I reach a result similar to what I wanted. I am very agile on the board and hear that I have a natural technique; sometimes I can go very fast. My biggest weakness is inexperience, but I'm working on that all the time. It is always hard to come new into a sport having to figure everything out yourself and even if I get help from friends and training partners there is no model for me to follow. I started this discipline when I was 19 and compared to many who started before they were 9 I am behind timewise. I like to think that by being new I see the sport with new awaken eyes and eager.

- What kind of training do you do, be it physical or mental, to keep you in shape for windsurfing?

Training to become a windsurfing champ, going strong while windsurfing is what is most important. Only being on the board sailing builds so many muscles. However it is important to be balanced and strong enough to handle the sailing. I do a lot of explosive training in the gym, biking and high heart rate intervals. Being strong helps you being concentrated in the races, and every race you do you also need to evaluate how you are handling the mental side. If you are not afraid to keep working on every weak spot you encounter, you will always get stronger and stronger.

- Which equipment do you mainly use during your races?

My main discipline is RS:X Windsurfing and that is a One Design class. It means that everyone uses the same equipment, the RS:X. It is quite a big board with an 8,5 meter sail. It is fast in most winds and you have to sail from 4 knots to 35 knots with exactly the same things! You just need to change the set up.

- Ocean Sunglasses:

I use my Oceans in all my trainings, on dry land I use my Urban glasses like the Bamboo Cool or Bamboo Nelson and on the sea I just love having polarized glasses to protect me when I windsurfing. I use the Lake Gardas as my favorites. They protect me from the sun and also make me see much better to always be on top, important parts of my everyday to have an healthy life and to reach high results. I am planing on doing windsurfing for a long time so it is very important to have a good set up that helps you.

I like Ocean sunglasses a lot because they are very light and comfortable, have nice polarized lenses and I love the floating abilities. Many times I forgot that I have them on until I notice and take them off, then I realize how much of a difference good glasses can make.

- Mystic Sweden:

Mystic has recently come to Sweden and I am so happy to have their wetsuits, harnesses and accessories! The wetsuit is an essential part of the set up and having great quality and great functionality is so nice. The new collections are perfect for RS:X windsurfing and they look pretty awesome.

- Surfsport Sweden:

Surfsport Sweden is one of the biggest online stores for surfing gear in the north of Europe and they help me as well with the wetsuits and accessories that I need while on travels and competitions, or just at home training in the chilly water during winter. They have a few local stores especially the one in Stockholm and I love visiting them to get inspired.

- KSSS (Royal Swedish Yacht Club):

KSSS is my home club, based in Stockholm, and they help me with many things that I need! I am part of their Olympic Challenge team and it is thanks to them I can sometimes have a coach or go on nice training camps.

- SSF (Swedish Sailing Federation):

The federation is always watching me and helping me in the way they can to create new olympic hope in Sweden. Together we set up goals and they help me reach them.

- Where is your favorite windsurfing spot and why?

I love Tarifa in the south of Spain. It is such a great spot because of the wind conditions, but also because of the people there. You can sail around all day together with friends who love wind-sports as much as you do and have a really good time. There are many different spots that work with different conditions so if you know your way around Tarifa everyday is a great windsurfing day. In Sweden my favorite spot is Lomma Beach on the south-west coast, there the water is shallow far out and perfect for learning new tricks. You also have some great people and winds.

- What keeps you occupied when the wind does not blow?

I think I am always fighting against time so when there is no wind I use to take advantage of the time to do some work, physical training, meditate and I actually love music. To be honest I also tend to spend a lot of time talking to people when I'm waiting for wind. If I really want to go sailing we go out no matter the conditions, you can get stronger in everything!

- If you weren’t a windsurfer, what would you be doing?

I enjoy windsurfing very much so I would probably still windsurf even if I couldn't do it professionally. If I couldn't windsurf I would finish my studies of becoming an engineer and also play a lot of music. I would like to dedicate time to science when I get older to help people and the environment.

- What are your next goals as a professional windsurfer?

My next goal as a windsurfer is to qualify Sweden to the RS:X Olympic Games, meaning I would really be an established windsurfer representing my country in the RS:X sport for the first time ever in the Olympics. I also hope to make the finals in the upcoming World Championships.

- What do you see yourself doing in 10 years from now?

10 years from now I would like to have gone to a couple of Olympic Games and done some great results in windsurfing, really reaching my full potential as an athlete. I would like to finish my studies and do something to help the environment around me. I think I will always find new exciting goals and try to live to the fullest.

Thanks for the interview Fanny!

Floating sunglasses. So you can enjoy your passion without worries.

Many people still do not take fully into account the importance of having or wearing the right sunglasses. If you don´t wear the right protection, you probably will pay the price. If we talk about people who do water sports is even more important, because you are running the risk of getting eye diseases that sometimes are irreversible.

At all events, if you want to know more about what are the main features you should consider when buying watersport sunglasses, read this article.

Naturally, all these features are very important, but in this article we want to focus on buoyancy, which we consider that is another relevant essential requirement, particularly in order to avoid losing your sunglasses at the bottom of the sea. Here is where floating sunglasses come into action.

You can find different floating sunglasses. Some of them are available with cords with floaters or buoyancy strap (floating sunglasses strap). Others contain unsinkable plastic or just having a floating frame or floating arms which have been designed with integral flotation or with floaters air chambers.

Definitely, if you want to prevent it from sinking at the bottom of the ocean, wearing floating sunglasses become an imperative and it´s a crucial feature for those who practice water sports such as, kitesurfing, Stand Up paddle, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and so on. Floating sunglasses are best choice for those with an active lifestyle in and around the water because if they drop into the water, they will always find their way to the surface.

Our philosophy is focused on developing our products in order to find the way you can do very high-risk sports giving precedence to the safety. That´s why We strive for quality in everything we do.

In this regard, Ocean Sunglasses offers a wide range of floating sunglasses that provide superior buoyancy and with different colors and styles.

Ocean floating sunglasses have floaters air chambers, integrated in the arms that will keep your shades in the surface in the case of a wipeout or an overboard drop.

Worn by world-renowned, olimpic champion and skipper for Team Mapfre of the Volvo Ocean Race Iker Martinez who leds a group of guys capable of fighting the other boats. Our floating sunglasses have been his emblem for the VOR by achieving fourth place in this 12th edition.

What are the main features you should consider when buying sailing sunglasses?

People who do watersports have to be aware of importance to wear good sailing sunglasses on water. Why? Sunshine reflecting off the water or spray from the waves are some conditions that sailors have to deal out on the water, so prevention is the best option.

Sailors spend a little more time in the water than they do out of it. So, It doesn't matter if you are an amateur sailing or a sailing on the world’s stage...You need a good protection on the water that blocks glare and harsh UV rays.

Below are a few things you should take into account when choosing a sailing sunglasses:

The lens material and color.

The material of the lens is essential when protection is the topic of the discussion. The direct sunlight or light reflects off the water distorting your vision. By wearing sailing sunglasses you will not have this kind of problems.

First and foremost, we should also mention the importance of Polarized lens. By blocking out only the polarized glare, the intensity of the light reaching your eyes is not reduced, so you can see everything more clearly.

Color perception is improved, objects retain their definition and the harmful effects of glare on the eyes are reduced. It should also be kept in mind that even on overcast days, the high–intensity light is present.

For the best eye protection during sailing, be sure you also invest in high-quality safety frames designed for sailing sunglasses.

You can find different kind of lens materials such as, polycarbonate, glass, plastic, trivex, between others.

The polycarbonate is one of the best choices for sailing for a number of reasons. This kind of lenses are up to 10 times more impact-resistant than plastic or glass lenses, what is especially suited for sailors, who may be at risk of being struck in the face. Furthermore, the lenses made of polycarbonate are tough and lighter than glass. They also offer 100 percent protection from the sun's harmful UV light.

In respect of color, grey offers the best all-around vision when you’re on the water. It is a neutral color that provides good contrast and no color distortion and reduces glare. It is the best choice for watersports like sailing in respect of sailing sunglasses.

Floatable Frames for floating Sunglasses. Did you know that there are thousands of pairs of sunglasses at the ocean? if you do not want to lose them, you will need a floating sunglasses . They will sit pretty on the top of the water until you’re able to collect them thanks to their floatable frames.
